Just to let you all know that tomorrow I'm flying to Switzerland for the week to see Luke play Boy George in "The Wedding Singer" in Geneva & Ben play in the East of France rugby final in Valence. I won't be able to craft while I am away.

I can't believe I've not blogged in over a week -nor made a card! I've been doing long days & evenings in the theatre on "Little Shop of Horrors". The show has had standing ovations every night & the feeling's fantastic. Anyway for those of you who have been asking, here are a couple of shots of the man-eating plant!

Time to Make-Up!

Here's my card for the Crafty Muse Black & White plus One challenge. I upped the stakes in the challenge by refusing to allow myself to use red, pink or purple as the plus one! The sentiment is actually green & very sparkly, just like the new eyeliner I bought yesterday. Maybe the card has been inspired by my make-up!

Oh Baby, Baby,.. how was I supposed to know?

...something wasn't right! Seems commenting on my blog ain't easy atm. Thanks for telling me! Here's my Funky Fairy baby card. It's simple cos all my brainspace is taken up with creating that %&*$ giant man-eating plant! I've used the FF "Seeing Spots" papers that I won last week -woooHoooO! Let's have Another One...

...just like the other ones! I know I have a fixation with sympathy cards at the moment, but they were seriously lacking from my stock & I'm trying to redress the balance. I've heard it's difficult to comment on my blog at the moment. If anyone can advise me on how to make it easier -I will!

On Man-eating Plants and the Such!

Today I've been making a giant man-eating plant from chicken wire & velvet curtains -eat your heart out LuLu! The brute swallows 3 teenagers & I suffered in rehearsal as I saw their death throes. As I've said, I'm on a mission to produce desirable sympathy cards & I dedicate this to the victims of "The Little Shop of Horrors"!

I See a Little Silhoutte-o of a Dog!

Rainbow Lady wants a silhouette & black & white this week. Well -there's definitely a silhouette here, greyscale & a stamp which is... red! The Guernsey craft shop owner's birthday is today & she keeps her dachshund in the shop. I saw this image & thought I'd turn it into a card for her as she's so helpful.

Polka Doodle-Doo

Polka Doodles is launched with a wonderful doodle. Here's my take on it. I was told recently that it's not easy to find tasteful, but unusual sympathy cards so I am a girl on a mission at the moment to redress that.

What a Knit!

I nearly forgot... thanks Beryl for reminding me about the new C.R.A.F.T challenge blog. Appropriately for the very first challenge they want to see something NEW. So I've used the Lili of the Valley template by Jo to inspire this card for a newborn.

Wedding Belle

Love and Marriage is the theme at My Time to Craft. Here is my card which I feel would make a suitable Silver Wedding Anniversary card. Many of my friends seem to be reaching this stage in their relationships.

Last night I enjoyed one too many glasses of wine. To avoid watching Casualty I made a second -this time legal- card for the Funky Fairy circles & buttons challenge. Not! Under the affluence of inkahalc I forgot to use the FF papers I bought especially for the challenge! The + side-I get to play it again!

100% Authentic!

This card is made from the bits I cut off a new pair of jeans -amazing where inspiration seems to come from! This is all the crafting I've managed yesterday & today as I've been giving the voice a good old workout & trying to learn a monologue about how to catch a dragon -don't ask!

When it's Spring again, I'll...

sing again! I've just enquired about a 2 year Performing Arts course. I'll be auditioning for them in the next 2 weeks so I'm singing like a canary atm & will probably lose my voice by audition day! Appropriately for Spring it's Pink & Green over at Created by Hand. Here's a very simple card, but I do like Papermania printed card blanks.

Pink, Green and Blue...

...is the challenge over at Lili of the Valley this week. I've said before -I always try and hedge my bets on gender when making a baby card. I get asked to make baby cards more than anything else and this way they can be unisex & made in my own time rather than in a hurry when the baby's born.

Hey Ho a Golden Lining!

For Sketch Saturday 51 I wanted a 70's album feel & hope the hearts look like thought bubbles for an absent love. As I kept singing David Essex's Silver Lining while making it -even tho it's gold- I've posted it for the DCM Music challenge & I'm cheeky enough to send it "illegally" for Funky Fairy's circles & buttons challenge while I buy myself time to make a law-abiding one LOL! ...they just go to seed! I owe a debt of thanks to Debbie as I spotted this sentiment on her blog this morning & loved it so much I just had to use it immediately!

Two for One

I made a card for ICS 16 & didn't like it at all (the baby card below), so I made another (the Congratulations above) which I much prefer. I found the tiny tree motif at the haberdashers on Norwich market. Isn't it amazing how different the same sketch looks with different colours & contexts?

How to Avoid Ironing!

This is my card for Funky Fairy Flowers & Bling using the free swirls BP download (available here). I'm supposed to be ironing -I usually allow myself 30 minutes blogging for each shirt ironed! But this challenge was so absorbing I couldn't wait to get started... on the crafting NOT on the ironing!

Forever Footballing!

This is my entry for the Cupcake Craft card for a man or a boy challenge. The one below is equally appropriate. And the fish below that!!! By chance last week I decided that I didn't have enough male cards so I have been making mainly those for the last couple of days.

Dino Trax

This card was made with help from BasicGrey. I saw a display with dinosaurs on & just had to have it to make a card for my nephew who's at that "dinosaur stage" of life! It's for the PTW Animal Antics challenge & I just realised it also fits the Cupcake Craft card for a man or boy challenge.

Sweet Lips

How much do I love core'dinations? On this Raspberry Ribbons challenge card I've sanded the red then crumpled & sanded the pink core'dinations. I've seen rosette tutorials in magazines so I decided to have a go to highlight the ribbon band. I'm amazed how easy & effective it was! I've just realised this card also fits the Cupcake Craft card for a man or boy challenge.

Choc-a-licious

It's scallops, pink & chocolate at Card-a-licious this week. Unfortunately the watermark butterfly on the chocolate panel does not show in the photograph, but it is there. BTW is chocolate the new brown?!?!

Mayday, Mayday, Mayday...

...is the Crafty Muse challenge. Actually I think it's May Day! This card evokes the May Day feast day of times of yore with it's Olde Worlde decoupaged lily, juxtaposed with what modern May Day means to me: fresh colours, awakening shades of green & carefree feelings as my birthday approaches. I really wanted to do a ribbon Maypole, but Sarah snaffled that so my green ribbon represents that tradition. The stripes also fit the Lots to Do challenge like the one below.

You've Been Framed!

As I'm making Race for Life cards (see above) I set myself the task of NOT using pink or blue for Rainbow Lady's frame challenge. One flower is very dark blue, but it's a colour I 've never used before so it doesn't count! Out bloghopping I also saw that it fits this week's Lots to Do stripes challenge.

Funky Me!

I've never made a Get Well Soon card & so I particularly want to thank Lulu & Anesha for encouraging me to join in the Funky Fairy Get Well Soon challenge this week. Having chosen the refreshing & vibrant p0ink Simply Swirly free BP download from Funky Fairy, I really wanted a sentiment along the lines of "To Brighten Up Your Day", but didn't know how to achieve it! I hope you like it anyway.

Dancing Queen

I started cross stiching this unlikely ballerina for my niece, Jorja, who is a Norfolk Ballet Scholar. Needless to say, I didn't finish it in time for her birthday, but I have managed to finish it in time for Rainbow Lady's Four Legged Friends challenge.

Luke (13) interprets the abused & lonely apprentice in a darkly atmospheric Peter Grimes -Grand Theatre de Geneve. Luke hates sport & had to be taught to kick a ball to stop it rolling into the orchestra pit! In contrast Ben (16, 6ft3, highest in the lineout in red) represents Switzerland in the European Rugby Championships. Both last month. Thanks for visiting!

baby. B is Rainbow Lady's challenge this week. I hunted out mum's old typewriter for the lettering. I can't stick it down because I can't find a glue stick & it's Sunday so the village shop is shut! I'm disappointed the lilac & lemon aren't clear.

Home from Home

I keep a crafty box at mum & dad's for when I'm feeling "itsy". Here's today's make. There won't be one tomorrow as I'm umpiring a netball tournament at my sister's school -I haven't played since I was at university!

Flying High!

Tonight I fly to the UK to spend a few days with mum and dad having spent the Easter holiday with my boys in Switzerland -so this card is most appropriate for Rainbow Lady's Transport Challenge!

Pick up a Penguin

Still cross-stitching as I haven't managed to recover my stash from my ex-home yet. I'm so new to it that it's working in the therapy stakes, but nothing beats stroking paper...

I'm now living in a flat in a village (photo) near my ex-family home. I feel like a student in a one-bed flat! I haven't been able to move my stash yet, but I've made a Christmas card from a cross-stitch kit which is much more portable!

On the Never-Never

Which Vintage?

I love Lots to Do, but had never made a vintage card. I'm learning stamping & bought this gorgeous stamp to practise. I love the image, but with no idea how to "do" vintage, I'm grateful to my new friend Ros for her advice & encouragement.

Got A Round Tuit Tulate!

Duh -thought the This Thursday challenge ran till Thursday! I got a round tuit tulate! At least I got a round tuit! At last I've tried Iris folding & love the effect, but my stamping obviously needs practice.

Hedging My Bets

This card celebrates the birth of the new Lili of the Valley challenge blog. I'm pleased with the pram & have just realised I always hedge my bets with baby cards & avoid making them gender specific.

Fun and Games!

No crafting -I've been playing mummy! Above, Ben playing rugby for Switzerland U18's v. Germany just after an elbow in the ear & just before the ambulance arrived! Below, Luke who's rehearsed panto all day & we just heard he's been cast in Britten's "Peter Grimes" at the Grand Theatre in Geneva! This is the 1st time I've posted the boys pics -I'm feeling very proud of them this weekend.

Kitschy Kitschy Koo!

Created by Hand left me cold -I didn't think I even had a dragonfly! Remembering these are challenges I finally found an unopened embossing template & an unopened tin of chalks! The result therefore is, unsurprisingly, unlike anything I've ever made before -and tres kitsch!

I got the Blues

The snowflake clip on this card is a magnetic bookmark. This is my blue & white entry for My Time to Craft. I would also like to thank the MTTC team for the fabulous prize I won in their last challenge -thank you!

Two for One

Lots to Do was perfect for me this week as I've been trying to use up bits & pieces. This anniversary card's made entirely from Valentine leftovers. Even the base card is made from two half cards glued together -one white & one red!

Beryl did a sketch as Rainbow Lady's GD. I wanted something "different" & aimed for an Andy Warhol/pop art look. I think I succeeded in that, but don't like the card! I'll definitely use the sketch again tho for something less modern.

Treble to Tenor

I'm sure I wasn't supposed to be pondering the PTW sketch in church! This card was inspired by the Gounod anthem we sang. The BP is a copy of the music & the image, a treble clef stamped 8 times. It's for the birthday of a professional tenor.

Arty Girlz 1st Birthday

Congratulations to Arty Girlz on their 1st Birthday. This is a very simple birthday card that uses up lots of oddz and endz and is fun to make. Bright & breezy enough for a one year old! Happy Birthday!

To Be or Not to Be...

for a boy that is the ? For the Lots to Do numbers challenge I hoped to make a male 18th card. Papers were an issue, but I cut a big pink peone off the blue one & the pink stripe's quite narrow. The bottom corner was bare & I only had shiny gems...

Les Feuilles Mortes

Les Feuilles Mortes is one of my favourite songs. This embossed Autumn Leaf card is for Rainbow Lady's challenge. The double aperture is backed with ivory gauze, the stamped image raised over the top window & in the bottom window I've put glass beads on wire in autumn shades.

Rock-a-by-Baby

I love recipe challenges. They make me root through boxes to find pieces that hang together & en route I find many bits & bobs I'd forgotten. So here are: 1 ribbon, 1 brad, 2 buttons, 1 stamped image & striped paper for the "Lots to Do" challenge. 

Bloomin' Bright!

This is actually a copy of a card I have posted before, but I am always intrigued by the effect of a different colour way on a design. I prefer this version. My Time to Craft asked for "Bright and Bold" this week. Isn't there a saying that goes something like "Be careful what you ask for -you might get it!"?!?!?

Wet and Watery

I think I took the easy option for the Arty Girlz altered anything challenge. I have spent a very rainy afternoon therapeutically glueing on glass tiles in a wonderfully rhythmic pattern & watery colours on a plain photo frame. The picture is of us on our boat on Lake Geneva.

Queen of Hearts

I haven't started my Christmas cards yet -but here's a Valentine's card ready for next year! I may try the same with the King of Clubs in monochrome for a male card. This is my entry for Rainbow Lady's playing card challenge & is loosely based on the sketch used for the PTW card below.

Neapolitan Cupcake!

My mouth began watering as I made this pink & brown card for the Created by Hand challenge. Then I realised the strawberry, vanilla & chocolate backing paper was inducing thoughts of Neapolitan ice-cream! I thoroughly enjoyed following a sketch for the first time & am proud to say it's made almost entirely of recycled bits & bobs. The sketch is Katharina's for PTW.

A Heart of Gold

Just a quickie from me as I was in the theatre last night & will be again all today & tomorrow. That means mum's over here helping out & this time it's a Golden Wedding card she needs for a "do" on her return to the UK. La voila -shaker cards have to be my favourite makes.

Well I Never...

tried to colour a stamp! So I grabbed the kids' school watercolour crayons then scoured the house for... a brush! Now a brush is well outside my comfort zone & it was just as tricky as I thought it would be! But I now have a card for my son's birthday & have completed the Created by Hand challenge.

A Stitch in Time......

could have saved 900! My duvet began to split & I didn't mend it for yonks till... the whole seam came undone! I hadn't used my machine for years -sew before I began I fiddled around on a piece of card for fun to ease me into the chore-bore! This card is the result & is for the PTW challenge.

Knot Again!!

Thanks Dawny P for teaching me to knot ribbons. Knot to put too fine a point on it, it is exactly the same as on the glitzy post below. I could knot make the train I saw in my mind's eye for Rainbow Lady's Transport Challenge, so here is a boat instead!

Too Much can be, well... Too Much!

My U.S niece is 13. I'm crafting with difficulty just now so thought I'd do unlike me things -like use glitter! Well I certainly did that & gave myself a laugh in the process! I'll send it her anyway, for what it is -& hope you'll laugh along with me!

... so I did! I avoid stamping. I buy stamps to make myself learn & still don't! I kept it simple & was still challenged outside my comfort zone. Guess that's why they're called challenges!

A Mechanical Card

Rainbow Lady's challenge this week is "Gardens". I've been wanting to try a mechanical card for ages so this was my chance! 

Work in progress, I think, to improve the cutting out & the exact placing of the greeting, but it was fun having a go.

My first DCM challenge -recycling.  The "merci" & ribbon are from a card I received. I often recycle but don't dare give the cards in case I accidentally offend whoever gave it to me!

Not sure what came over me here - I am NOT a Sesame Street fan! But there does seem to be a Big Bird influence happening here! Rainbow Lady & her Bird Challenge may never recover! 

Bloomin' Bright!

My Time to Craft ribbons challenge and fiddling, a ribbon frame took shape. This resulted: a playschooler's riot of delight -ribbon, mesh, felt, wooden flowers, lots of fun, but probably OTT for most of my friends! Keep changing my mind as to what I think...

Three Dee

I enjoyed making a frame card earlier this year so I tried a different take on the Arty Girlz 3D challenge: the image going into the card rather than coming out. I love the effect of framing.

Funky Fairy is totally dotty! So am I cos I should be getting lunch ready! Looks like it's frozen pizza again -teeheehee!

So-so!

The Inch by Inch challenge is to use a word starting with the initial of your first name -sew here's mine! Well that's what I thought the challenge was -duh! I had sew much fun creating this inchy -but the result is only sew-sew: I didn't see you were supposed to include things starting with the initial too! But hey -we all know that the old fashioned word "button" has been replaced by the much more user friendly expression "Sew-able/on-able/fastener" which quite obviously starts with S -sew I'm not as stupid as I seem. Then there's stitching & strands - and obviously I'm clutching at straws!!!

Gift Box

Buttons & a punched buckle to hold a ribbon bow et voila a gift box for the Funky Fairy recipe challenge & a moment of therapy after the theft of my mobile & purse today. Oh, and thanks to Inchy by Inch for cheering up my day too -my "hot" inchy (below) picked up the blog candy prize! Thank you, Fiona!

Pink and Black plus One

Thanks to Rainbow Lady for having pink in her challenge! To be combined with black & 1 other colour. Two firsts here -for ages I've wanted to give a spiral jotter a new lease of life & I've been wondering how to make those cheery ribbon flowers. This was great fun to create!

Monochrome Violet? Not!

I love Rainbow Lady's challenges! Imaginative & with oodles of space for creativity. But this week I have failed & should be disqualified! I post my card nonetheless with a sense of arrogant pride: I tried, did not make the grade, but still have a card which is perfect for my nearly 30 year old step-daughter! 

The First Inch!!!

There's an awesome new challenge blog  -Inch by Inch. Inspired by beautiful posts I thought I'd try it -how difficult & how much fun?!? One inch by one inch & to include any word is all -hah!!! Anyway here's mine which I dedicate to all the "Kiss Me Kate" cast & crew. We were indeed "Too Darn Hot"!!! 

Christmas Beads

 This is cheeky! My Christmas angel card was an excuse to wrap silver & red beads round the repeatedly stamped angel which disguises the fact I still can't stamp! So Rainbow Lady thank you for another versatile challenge which I am also posting for Fab's Big Christmas Challenge. 

Fairy Godmothers

The Fairy Godmothers granting the baby's wishes -& so much acetate, iridescent hearts & glitter that it's too difficult to get a decent shot. Sorry everyone! This is for Rainbow Lady's challenge which this week is fairies.

Here is yet another commissioned baby card. I guess it will soon be the wedding season instead lol! This one was also designed to suit the DCM midweek challenge to use folds on the card -here the envelope is folded. I wish I had some gadget to emboss my card blanks and add interest..... but I haven't. 

Lots to Do!

A card for Rainbow Lady's plastic challenge and a CD for the Lots to Do challenge! I'm feeling emotional as the "KMK" run finished yesterday -no more "Another op'nin, Another show" for me. This is a plastic cd cover attached to a card blank & a KMK poster as backing paper to decorate the CD. I cut the kiss & kate from a flyer, mounted them on red card & SWALKED the plastic shut.... a card for the producers!

Making Waves

Waves for the Papertake Weekly challenge hand-embossed onto the card blank & a scalloped edge that's 1cm shorter than the back so the card stands up balanced on the lighthouse panel. I used the scalloped off-cut on the bottom layer of the card to add dimension. TFL!

Oooohh là là!

Are you thinking garters & "something borrowed, something blue"? Here's my Poppicrafts ribbon challenge card. Skim down & you'll see what a ribbon user I am -not! I've used 84cm & 7 different types here(there's an aqua ribbon under the lace).

What was everyone doing 9 months ago?! I've been asked for yet another baby card! Here it is!

I made this card in a hurry for a pocket card challenge as I didn't know when it ended, but at least I'm ahead of myself for once. I have a wedding on Saturday & won't be making the card as I go out of the door! Rainbow Lady's next challenge is a card with brads or eyelets.

For Enfys' challenge I used my texture plate & Fastenater for the 1st time & am really pleased with them. The aqua gems don't show on the photo, but I love their subtle look in contrast to the black & white.

I'm really pleased with my first acetate card filled with glitter & silver hearts (actually it's an old sticker packet!) for Nikki's "use paper you don't like" challenge. I can live with the paper now cos you can't see it under the glitter!

It's square! Here's my Papertake Weekly Challenge card. Hilarious! I made mistake after mistake. The card kept getting smaller as I cut it to start again. I was left with a dinky little 8 x 8cm card! BTW I used black funky foam for the matting & layering, just for fun & texture!

This is for the Papertake Weekly Challenge. I'm stuck in a rut at the moment with commissioned baby cards. My friend loves it, but I'm tired of doing prams for babies.

Mum's off & needs a Ruby Wedding card! I'm getting crazy value from Feb 14th leftovers! Oh those Poppicrafts charms: elegance in a jiffy. Then I dash her to the airport -late again!

For My Fantastic Mr. Fox

Finally manage to make the card for Luke who opens as Mr Fox in "Fantastic Mr Fox" today! Too stressed to find an idea. Need matchsticks for the eyes. Can't see the result! But it's for an early teen who thinks his mum is the best so he won't mind!

Poppicrafts Challenge: 3 flowers, 2 brads, 1 ribbon...

The frustration: a 6 element job turns into a 6,000 piece jigsaw! The wire "Love" card below was popular so I tried wire wording again. It was the 2 brad limit that was distressing for "ButtonzandBradz"!
